A: Open ther distributor and sparingly spray the inside of the cap with WD40. Cafefully wipe all this out with a clean rag. That should remove any moisture. Ford rangers will get a wet distributor in heavy rain or car washes. Make sure all the spark plug wires are clean, dry and tight. Do them one by one so they don't get mixed up.
Q: What is causing the reverse not to work in my ford ranger?
I have a 1996 Ford Ranger, I just fixed an overheating problem but the truck will still not go in reverse and I have to shift from low through the gears to get to drive. When in low gear if I let off the gas the truck slows like it is supposed to. What could be causing this issue?
A: Your vaccum modelator is defective and needs to be replaced....Check vaccum line to modulator and make sure it is connected......

A: Have you checked under the hood? A lot of manufacturers will put a diagram of how the serpentine belt is fitted under there. If not you will probably need to get a shop manual for your particular model.
Q: How do I adjust the steering in a 94 ford ranger?
I have a 1994 ford ranger 4 cly and the steering wheel has several inches of play on either side. Once you turn the wheel past that point the steering I'd as rift and responsive as it should be. Is there an adjustment I can make or am I going to have I replace the steering box? Any help is much appreciated.
A: First look under the truck as someone wiggles the steering wheel to see where the play is. More than likely you have loose tie rods, or a idler arm. I have never seen a steering box need adjustment on a Ranger!

Q: What size wheels and tires can i get on a ford ranger with only a 3" body lift?
I'm looking at getting a ford ranger with a 3' body lift only ( its all i can afford at the moment) and I"m wondering what size rims and tires i can get on the truck. I'm looking for a mudding looking tire.
A: I would need to know the year. for the most part 33 inch tires should work but it is very important you have the correct offset on your wheels so the tires do not rub. You will also need to know the laws in your state. can the tires stick out legally? If so then you can go more negative with the offset giving you more room.

Q: How do I remove the drive shaft from an 89 ford ranger?
I am replacing the clutch of my 89 ford ranger, 4 cylinder standard transmission truck. I got partially through but got stuck on the removal of the drive shaft. I need to get the drive shaft out but cannot find detailed instructions on how to do so. Anyone know?
A: Take the bolts out holding it to the rear differential pinion. If it is a split shaft you will also have to remove the bolts holding the center bearing to the frame.
Are you sure that is all that has you stuck?

Q: How to get more horsepower out of my ford ranger?
I have a 1995 ford ranger with a 4.0 v6 and a 5 speed standard trany in it. The truck is completely stock and runs great, but I was wondering how I could get more horsepower out of it. If anyone has any ideas please tell me thanks:)
A: With a 6 you can't do much. 6's are not designed to be able to handle add-ons. Although the product might say it fit is, it is not good for the engine. About the only thing I would say would be a Cold Air intake. No turbos or superchargers. It really messes the engine up.
Q: Question about rebuilding an 89 Ford Ranger?
I am rebuilding a 1989 Ford Ranger. It has a 2.9 V6 in it. I have power running to everything in the truck. I just can't get power past the ignition coil. It will run into the ignition coil, but it will not pass though to the cap. I just bought a brand new ignition coil and it still isn't working. Does the coil mount itself have to be grounded to the truck? I just don't know what to do.
If I grounded the coil, would that cause it not to let power pass through the nipple on the coil?

It is a Ford Ranger XLT Supercab 2WD 3.0 Liter V6 engine. It has a ball socket located in the bumper that is rated at 2000 lbs, and a second hitch bolted/welded to the frame rated at 3500 lbs. If any more information is needed please feel free to leave a message in the answers and I will post more info.

A: That sounds about right, 3500 lbs on the second hitch and 2000 on the bumper hitch. I drive a 2005 Ford Sport Trac that is able to haul around 5500 lbs on the hitch connected to the frame, I dont use the one that is connected to the bumper because I think it is silly how they have a hitch on the bumpers. You're equipped with a 3.0 V6 which has enough power to haul a small trailer with a load with ease. I wouldn't try and haul anything that you have a doubt about. Like pulling a boat or something.

Q: What transmission would be the best for a modified Cummins 4b in a 1993 Ford Ranger?
I have a modified Cummins 4b and am wanting to put it into my Ford Ranger. I have Dana 44 front and rear axles from a Jeep Cherokee that had a V8 and they are only slightly longer than the stock axles. I need to know what transmission and transfer case would be best for my application. And dont tell me to start with a bigger truck because I have my mind set on a diesel Ranger! Thank you!
