Q: I have a 1991 Ford Explorer and im not getting any power to my fuel pump. What could of happened?
I have a 1991 Ford Explorer with a 4.0L V6. It drove for a while and it just stopped. The fuel pump wasn't turning on at all. So i replaced the pump and relay but still no power. What else could it be to not be sending power to the pump? Can i bypass it if i have to?
A: there is a electronic fuel shutoff that is designed to kill the power to the fuel pump in case of an accident....if you hit a bump hard or a curb this can trip look in your owners guide or under the hood for a chart also can be located in the back drivers side inside the compartment look for ayellow handle
Q: How do i grease the suspension on a 98 Ford Explorer?
I have sqeaking coming from the front suspension on my 98 Ford Explorer Sport. I got underneath and nothings broke, and it's pretty clean except for minor rust. It only squeaks when the chasis bounces up and down. A few people from explorer clubs tell me its a common problem that can be resolved by greasing the suspension and bushings, but I dont know how. Thanx for any advice in advance.
A: The radial axis bushings squeak ,I used some lithium grease in a spray can.they can be replaced reasonably easy also

Q: why does my 99 ford explorer idle so fast when I first start it?
just bought this 99 ford explorer, and its seems to idle real fast when it is first started, it slows down a little after a minute or two. Is there a way that I can adjust it, or this how it is suppose to act?
A: Your vehicle will idle fast according to the temp of your engine. A cold engine idles fast to warm up quicker and when it gets to operating temp. the PCM will reduce the idle speed.
Q: What sound system should I buy for my Ford Explorer?
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer and I want to buy a sound system with loud bass and everything. What can I buy without going overboard on the price. I also don't want to change the dashoard and I do have a 6 disc changer inside the center arm rest console. Would I be able to put the controller there? Thanks!
A: how loud u want to go?
4 ch. amp to power 2 new front speakers (or use 1 channel of the amp) and a sub in a slim box made for trucks... wedge box ported and tuned to your sub. go with a 10 at least.

Q: How do I attach a trailer to my Ford Explorer?
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport and I need detailed instructions(pictures would be great but not necessary) about what kind of hitch to get, how to install the hitch, attach the trailer, and connect the trailer's brake lights. The trailer would be about 2500-3000lbs.
A: Dealers have them ready to fit. It is a specialty job and needs their expertise.
You cannot do it yourself
Q: Does anyone know why my ford Explorer coughs and splutters for about 2 minutes when starting in the morning?
my ford explorer is very erratic when starting in the mornings.Engine races then revs drop drastically and engine often dies totally. After about 2minutes driving the engine is fine for the rest of the day.
A: wow....some of the answers....
check idle air control valve. they act stupid only when first started. try holding your foot lightly on the gas pedal. if it stays running nicely then check the iac for sure. i dont know that i am onboard with the cool temp as it would typically cause driveability issues most if not all of the time.
my $ would pull the iac, attempt to clean it with brake cleaner and reinstall. if it still acts up and runs with light pedal pressure then just replace it.
made lots of $$$ at ford on those...not uncommon to replace if the engine has a lot of miles or tons of short trips carboning it up.

Q: I might buy a 98 ford explorer 4dr 2wd v6 150k miles Do this truck have a timing belt? How much to replace it?
I don't have much money so i need something affordable and to get me to work.
Anyone had any problems with their 98 ford explorer 4dr v6 2wd?
Do it require alot of maintence? Thanks.
A: The V6 does not have a timing belt it is a chain. With the miles on it the vehicle it could have allot of mechanical issues depending on how well it was maintained. My advice is buy something else like a small car.

Q: what is the life expectancy of a ford explorer?
we have the opportunity to get a free ford explorer, 10 years old/100,000 miles. do ford exlporers last a while, how are they on maintenence when they are this old?
the explorer would be a secondary car. right now our secondary car is a 96 toyota tercel with 170,000 miles on it. guess the main thing i want to know is, would it be better for us to keep the toyota for a secondary car or the explorer?
A: A car will last as long as you will let it. If you change the oil on time and make sure easy things like the timing belt, filter, tires etc are all in good shape, then it should run just fine. Gas won't be as good as your Tercel, but that's expected obviously with more capabilities and a bigger engine.
Mine's a '99 with 67,000 miles (YES I know, hardly broken in!) and the only problems that it has ever needed to be taken to the shop for was a bad thermostat and a multifunction switch, which neither were cheap but when it comes to car repairs they are one of the cheaper repairs.
Q: Are there ways to make a Ford Explorer more fuel efficient?
I'm doing a cross-country drive with two people this summer and we're taking my friend's Ford Explorer (a 96). I know gas is going to be ridiculous, and I was hoping that there are a few ways to increase the fuel efficiency so we only go partially broke. :-)
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
A: Keep the tires inflated to the max pressure indicated on the tire. Make sure your air filter is clean, spark plugs are fairly new, and change the oil (just good practice anyway). Use cruise control when safe to do so, and keep it under 70. Accelerate gradually. If it's hot, keep the windows closed and run the a/c, it's more efficient than having the extra wind resistance of the windows open. I have a '99 Explorer with the 4.0 V6 and average 21mpg with my daily drive of 25 miles each way to work, though there are very few stops and a 55mph limit on my route. Good luck.
Q: Why is there a shortage of Ford Explorer radiators?
We have a 2006 Ford Explorer(AKA Junk) that has a leaking radiator and the deler can not find one anywhere. They tell me that they are on back order as much as 5000+.
A: Call ---1-800-RADIATOR... They will have one of those ...it will be aftermarket but has a good warranty...and will fit properly..
